SBF Strengthens Business Voice at the WTO

SBF actively participates in the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), the voice of business in the Asia-Pacific region. Recently, ABAC members met with the WTO Secretariat and key ambassadors in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss critical issues impacting global trade.

The WTO recognises the vital role businesses play in a healthy global trade environment, and the importance of business perspectives in tackling trade challenges. WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala acknowledged that ABAC plays a key role in providing innovative solutions and ensuring a strong voice for businesses at the WTO table.

SBF and ABAC are committed to supporting digital and green trade by promoting sustainable and innovative trade practices, ensuring a level playing field for service providers, and creating opportunities for all businesses to participate and thrive. By working collaboratively, we can build a stronger trading system that benefits businesses, people, and the planet.

Charting ASEAN's Economic Development in the Evolving Trade Landscape

SBF recently met with Mr George Yeo, former Minister for Trade & Industry and for Foreign Affairs at the Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy. Mr Yeo provided valuable insights on the shifting global trade landscape as well as rising geopolitical tensions and economic fragmentation that threaten the stability businesses rely on. At the Asia Competitiveness Institute Annual Research Conference 2024 held on 8 March, Guest-of-Honour and SBF CEO Kok Ping Soon highlighted the resurgence of industrial policy amid rising trade barriers and emerging strategies like nearshoring.
