Malaysia-Singapore Business Council Affirms Support for Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone
Today, the Malaysia-Singapore Business Council (MSBC) convened its 25th Joint Meeting at the SBF Center in Singapore, expressing its support for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
The meeting, co-chaired by Dr Robert Yap, Executive Chairman of YCH Group, and Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani from Zaid Ibrahim & Co., underscored the MSBC's dedication to enhancing bilateral economic ties. Discussions centred on advancing mutual interests and exploring new opportunities through the development of the JS-SEZ, aimed at bolstering trade and enhancing economic connectivity between the two countries. The meeting also addressed shared challenges in the global landscape.
Key highlights of the discussions included strategic deliberations on promoting sustainable growth, harnessing technological advancements particularly in cross-border transactions to enhance business operations, and expanding market access for Malaysia and Singapore companies. Attendees also engaged in constructive dialogue aimed at deepening partnerships and reinforcing the longstanding business relations between both countries.
Established in July 2004 to promote business and investment activities between Singapore and Malaysia, the MSBC continues to serve as a useful collaboration platform for the business communities of both countries to initiate mutually beneficial projects and explore joint opportunities.
Dr Robert Yap said, “The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone will strengthen collaboration and drive sustainable growth between our countries. We are confident that this initiative will boost regional competitiveness, create high-quality jobs, and enhance innovation. By leveraging our combined strengths and fostering cross-border synergies, we will build a resilient economic landscape benefiting businesses and communities, paving the way for a prosperous and interconnected future.”
Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani said, “The MSBC reiterates its strong support of the JS SEZ as a driver of economic development and regional cooperation. We believe in the transformative impact of this initiative and are dedicated to fostering strong economic collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore.”
