SBF announces winners of Singapore Sustainability Awards 2015
• Ten winners join 68 other companies as business leaders in the sustainability space.
[21 October 2015] Singapore – Ten private and public sector organisations will be recognised this evening for their commitment to sustainable business practices at the 2015 Singapore Sustainability Awards (SSA) Gala Dinner. Held at Grand Copthorne Waterfront, the award ceremony will be graced by Mr Masagos Zulkifli Bin Masagos Mohamad, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources. The winners are lauded for their sustainable business practices, pro-environment operations and performance management systems, corporate social responsibility, innovation and green technology implementation.
Currently into its sixth year, the SSA is the apex recognition programme of the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) which showcases the most commendable sustainable practices and green solutions amongst organisations in Singapore. The Awards comprises two categories – the Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) and the Green Technology Awards (GTA), serving as a yardstick for organisations to benchmark against the standards of top companies.
Applicants were evaluated by an independent panel of judges comprising Autodesk Asia, the Economic Development Board, Global Compact Network Singapore, International Enterprise Singapore, Nanyang Business School (Nanyang Technological University), National Environment Agency, SIMTech and SPRING Singapore. The evaluations were also guided by SBF’s long-term knowledge partners KPMG and Frost & Sullivan.
This year, Elmich Pte Ltd is the sole recipient of the Top Honour title, under the GTA Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) category. Elmich is a leading engineering solutions company specialising in urban landscaping, construction and storm water management. Elmich presented a well thought-out sustainability plan and stood out with their exceptional business strategy implementation. They also demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable business practices through their value proposition, with sustainability incorporated across four areas – people, processes, products and planet.
Also under the GTA category, three other winners attained the Achievement of Excellence title – Gashub Technology Pte Ltd (SME category), Neutrinos Engineering Pte Ltd (SME Category) and Canon Singapore Pte Ltd (Large Enterprise Category). These companies showcased innovative products that serve their intended purposes well and at a lower environmental cost.
Under the SBA category, six winners were awarded the Achievement of Excellence title – Ardentec Singapore Pte Ltd (SME Category), Buckman Laboratories Pte Ltd (SME Category), The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (Large Enterprise Category), Marina Bay Sands (Large Enterprise Category), Kimberly-Clark Singapore Pte Ltd (Large Enterprise Category) and Wilmar International Limited (Large Enterprise Category). Mr Ho Meng Kit, Chief Executive Officer of SBF said, “The Singapore Sustainability Awards have recognised many extraordinary organisations with inspiring business practices and green products over the last six years. It is heartening to see more and more businesses coming forward to say that sustainability is key to safeguarding their long-term competitiveness. We hope that our 10 recipients this year, with their exemplary sustainable practices and green solutions, will inspire others to reach higher and go further in making their businesses responsible towards society and the environment.”
In conjunction with SSA 2015, SBF also collaborated with Nanyang Technological University’s Nanyang Business School for the first time to produce the case study handbook titled “Scaling New Heights for Sustainability Excellences”.
