Singapore - Leading Supply Chain Management Hub in Asia


Overview

Singapore’s inaugural supply chain event titled ‘Singapore – Leading Supply Chain Management Hub in Asia’ is jointly organised by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), Workforce Singapore (WSG), and Singapore Business Federation (SBF). The event will bring together APAC business and supply chain leaders, HR professionals, education leaders, as well as knowledge partners to discourse:

(i)              How companies’ supply chain strategies are evolving, leading to shifts in supply chain networks within APAC and

(ii)             Best practices on how companies are investing to equip their supply chain workforce with emerging supply chain skill sets in view of trends such as digitalisation, sustainability, and the drive towards resilient and agile supply chains.

There will be 2 panel discussions led by expert knowledge partners, that would cover the above topics, alongside senior industry professionals.

The guest-of-honour, Ms Low Yen Ling, Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), will also be launching:

(i)              Findings from Singapore’s inaugural Supply Chain talent study and the associated pilot programmes aimed at enhancing our SCM talent ecosystem, as well as,

(ii)             Key survey insights from the EDB-Gartner “Trends in APAC Supply Chain Networksurvey

In the first panel discussion, Sue Breniman, VP APAC Supply Chain at Gartner, will share insights on key challenges faced by global supply chain leaders and discuss emerging trends in supply chain network and organization design. She will also share key findings from a recent survey on APAC SC network and hub organization design.

Followed by a lively panel discussion focused on the evolution of supply chain network design and hub organization design in APAC. Panelists will discuss and debate strategies, priorities, and trade-offs that drive their design choices, such as service, cost, risk, speed, and innovation. Panelists will share their network and organization design journey, highlight challenges and opportunities related to hubs in APAC, and share thoughts about the future of network and organization design for APAC.

In the second panel discussion, Dr. Knut Alicke, Partner of the Supply Chain Management Practice at McKinsey & Company, will start off by sharing key global trends in the supply chain industry and their implications for the future of supply chain jobs, as well as present a case example of a successful company transformation. Subsequently, he will lead a panel discussion on the evolving significance of supply chains in terms of digitalization, resiliency, and sustainability. The panelists will address the challenges they have encountered in this region from their respective local hubs, share their thoughts on essential roles and skillsets in supply chain operations, and the strategies they have employed to bridge the talent and skill gaps within organizations.

Ms Low Yen Ling was elected as a Member of Parliament for Chua Chu Kang GRC in the 2011, 2015 and 2020 General Elections. She is presently the Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY). Prior to that, she was the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education (MOE) from 2015 till July 2020 and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) from 2018 till July 2020. She had also previously held office in the Ministry of Social and Family Development (2013-2015), MCCY (2014-2015) and MTI (2015- 2018).

Sue is a results-orientated leader with a strong track record of successful transformations. She has extensive international experience managing business-critical projects, large world-class operations, and key customer relationships. Sue was recently named Global Top 100 Women in Supply Chain.

 

Sue has 35+ years of experience leading Supply Chains and 25+ years of experience in Asia Pacific. During her 3+ years at Gartner, Sue has supported regional and global supply chain leaders and led the initial development of Gartner’s global disruption playbook.

Dr Knut Alicke
Partner

McKinsey & Company

Knut Alicke is a Master Expert / Partner of the Supply Chain Management Practice at McKinsey. He joined the Stuttgart office in August 2004. Knut is the author of the best-selling book “From Source to Sold – Stories of Leadership in SC”. He was selected amongst the top 3 global SC influencers and is part of the global leadership team of the Supply Chain Practice.

Before joining McKinsey, he started his professional career with ICON in Karlsruhe in April 2001 – developing planning solutions for High-Tech Clients (e.g., Hewlett-Packard). He was a member of the management team.
