Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA)
ACRA was formed with effect from 1 April 2004, by the enactment of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority Act (ACRA Act). The formation of this statutory board is a result of a merger between the then Registry of Companies and Businesses (RCB), and the Public Accountants' Board (PAB). ACRA's role is to achieve synergies between monitoring of corporate compliance with disclosure requirements and the regulation of public accountants performing statutory audit.
With effect from 1 January 2009, all entities that are registered in Singapore will enjoy the convenience of having a single identification number to transact with the Government. The Practice Direction 5 of 2008 seeks to inform BizFile users of the scheduled BizFile downtime from 24 December 2008 (Wed), 12 midnight to 31 December 2008 (Wed), 11.59pm for the conduct of the Unique Entity Number (UEN) conversion exercise for entities registered with ACRA. During this period there will not be any access available to BizFile for all BizFile users.
