The APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Singapore and the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) organized the APEC CEO Summit 2009 from 12-14 November 2009 as part of the APEC Week Meetings here in Singapore.
The Summit, Asia-Pacific's premier business forum of the world's greatest minds, hosted a record number of 14 APEC Leaders. President Dimitry Medvedev of Russia, President Hu Jintao of China, Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama of Japan and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd of Australia joined 46 top business leaders and influential thinkers to address some 1,500 delegates from both industry and government sectors from 39 economies in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. The Summit which was opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, included a spirited dialogue session which featured Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who spoke at length on how the global crisis has changed the world.
Themed "Rebuilding the Global Economy: Crisis and Opportunity", this year's Summit sought to examine the direction of global economy in the wake of one of the worst crisis in history. Participants at the Summit were exhorted by outstanding world leaders and captains of industry to "lead the change" towards a new post-crisis economic environment, to ensure that the global economy returns to a phase of sustained growth.
APEC's relevance and status as a vital global institution was also cemented as a poll of the participants at the Summit found that 82.9% of them felt that APEC is a successful institution. Aside from the substantive discussions at the conference proper, there was ample quality networking opportunities for the top political and business leaders.
