- Singapore was presented with two distinguished awards
- Singapore Seminar and Singapore-Guangxi Networking Dinner were well-received by both the Chinese and the Singapore participants
Singapore, Monday, 31 October 2011 - The 8th China-ASEAN Exposition (CAEXPO) officially concluded on 26 October 2011 at Nanning, Guangxi, China. Singapore was awarded two distinguished awards by the 2010 Organising Committee, namely: the "Best Brand Display Award" and the "Best Exhibitors Organiser Award", for her efforts in promoting the theme of "Environmental Protection Cooperation".
The 8th CAEXPO was officially opened by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on the morning of 21 October 2011, and among the state leaders were Singapore government representatives, Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang, Minister of State Teo Ser Luck and Senior Parliament Secretary Sam Tan.
The Singapore contingent toured the National and Commercial Pavilions following the Opening Ceremony, and met and interacted briefly with the 18 Singapore exhibitors.
The Seminar on "Singapore - Your Global Business Hub" held on the morning of 22 October 2011 was attended by some 120 Chinese businessmen, who were keen to learn more about the business opportunities in Singapore from representatives of the Economic Development Board, IE Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board and Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Investment and Development Co Ltd.
The Singapore-Guangxi Networking Dinner graced by MOS Teo Ser Luck and Senior Parliament Secretary Sam Tan was attended by some 150 participants; 70 of whom were Singapore representatives and the other 80 were senior officials from major Chinese companies.
Said Mr Darren Sou, Sales Engineer of TES Global Pte Ltd, "As a first-time exhibitor, I am happy to see that CAEXPO has brought about genuine business contacts for us. Being in the niche market offering machinery for steel reinforcement welding mesh, it makes it doubly difficult to establish contacts. I feel that CAEXPO is a good and important platform for business exchanges beyond China and ASEAN."
The CAEXPO organiser has revealed that the 8th CAEXPO attracted a total participation of 203,000 visitors including 55,000 trade exhibitors; an increase of 4.6% from the 7th CAEXPO held in 2010. CAEXPO ended with a total trade volume of USD 1.8 billion and 105 projects signed; an increase of 5.6% and 10.6% respectively.
Said Mr Casey Chew, Business Development Manager of Khong Guan Biscuit Factory (S) Pte Ltd, "We are glad to be a returning exhibitor and we are very excited to be able to leverage on the CAEXPO once again to showcase our Singapore brand. Response for our products has been overwhelming since the first day of the trade exhibition. CAEXPO can only get better with each year."
The 9th CAEXPO will be held from 19 - 24 October 2012, with Myanmar being the Country-of-Honour. The theme for the 9th CAEXPO will be "Science and Technology Cooperation".
