Taiwan and Singapore business communities strengthen ties during 10th Joint Meeting between CIECA and SBF relations

Singapore, Monday, 8 November 2010 - The Singapore Business Federation jointly held the 10th Joint Meeting with the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA) to boost business relations between the two business communities. The last meeting was held five years ago.

The joint meeting, which provides a networking platform for the businessmen in Singapore and Taiwan to know about business opportunities and explore joint collaborations in third countries, was led by Mr. Peter Seah, Singapore Co-Chairman of Joint Meeting; Chairman, DBS Group Holdings and DBS Bank and Mr. Douglas Hsu, Co-Chairman of Joint Meeting; Chairman, Singapore Committee, Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA).

Mr Seah noted in his welcome address to the 57 Singapore and 37 Taiwanese company representatives from sectors of tourism, shipping, logistics, renewal energy and finance present, "Singapore and Taiwan companies could join hands in exploring third markets such as ASEAN countries and India. ASEAN currently representing 650 million people with a US$ 1.4 trillion GDP is moving towards a single market and production base by 2015 under the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint. India, which has been registering progressive growth, also offers tremendous opportunities for collaboration between Singapore and Taiwan companies. Besides looking at third markets, sectoral cooperation such as shipping, logistics and renewable energy are possible areas of cooperation between Singapore and Taiwan".

Taiwan's Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) plans to hold an investment-soliciting seminar Nov. 22-23 in Singapore, hoping to attract more Singaporeans to invest in Taiwan. Taiwan was Singapore's eighth largest trading partner last year, with total trade amounting to $31 billion.
