Singapore, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 - The Singapore Business Federation today organized a business Seminar cum networking session in conjunction with the state visit of H.E. Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan. He was accompanied by a 32-member strong business delegation, comprising key appointment holders of state owned enterprises as well as elite businessmen, primarily from the banking & financial services, ICT, infrastructure and agriculture sectors.
In his keynote address, President Rahmon highlighted to more than 140 participants from the Singapore business community the vast potential of hydro-power plants in his country. He invited Singapore businessmen to capitalize on the benefits of the spillover from these investments, as well as to explore the tourism potential and untapped beauty of Tajikistan.
SBF Vice Chairman Mr. Vijay Iyengar, in his opening address, noted the Tajik government's reform-minded initiatives, its continued commitment towards economic development, and drive for a more competitive and modern economy. He urged Singapore companies to explore sectoral opportunities such as oil and gas downstream activities, clean & renewable energy, infrastructure, ICT, logistics, various fields of manufacturing and other services industries.
The local business community, which represented sectors of infrastructure; services; commodities; ICT; and oil and gas, also witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing between the Government of Republic of Tajikistan and Noble Group Limited. The MOU aims to allow possible financing of the construction of hydroelectric power stations; cooperation in the spheres of mining, coal, non-ferrous industries; as well as the reconstruction, investment and development in the Tajik Aluminium Company. Mr. Richard Elman, Founder and Chairman of Noble Group Limited signed the MOU with Mr. Saidor Daviataly, Head, Committee of Investment and State Property Management.
