Welcome Remarks by Mr. Teng Theng Dar, Chief Executive Officer of SBF, on
"Business Opportunities in Traditional and Alternative Energy Conference 2009 "
on 26 June 2009, Fri, 9.30 am – 12.30 pm at SBF Seminar Room 2, Level 21
Mr Sergey Obrezanov, Chief Executive Officer, Russian Business Incubator Futurus Pte Ltd.
Friends from Russia;
Distinguished Guests;
Ladies and Gentlemen,
1. On behalf of Singapore Business Federation and our business community, it gives me great pleasure to welcome our Russian delegation to Singapore.
2. I would also like to extend my warmest greetings to our Singapore businessmen who have gathered here today to learn more about the exciting technologies and opportunities within the traditional and alternative energy sector which Russia has to offer.
3. Since the inking of the strategic MOU between SBF and RBI in January this year, both our organizations have established a good working relationship and partnership in promoting Russian technologies to Singapore companies.
4. In March 2009, our inaugural event - the Russia-Singapore Nanotechnology Conference 2009 - was very well attended by our local business community and we have received positive feedback from the participants of that forum.
5. Under this established roadmap between SBF and RBI, today's conference is the second event in a series of activities that both our organisations will be jointly undertaking and collaborating for the rest of the year.
6. It aims to promote business opportunities and greater collaborations between Russian and Singaporean companies in the area of traditional and alternative energy. A strong speaking faculty comprising of industry experts and prominent businessmen are here with us today, to share their valuable experiences and views of this sector.
7. The traditional energy is certainly one sector which both our business communities have strong business collaborations in. I am pleased to share with you that in 2008, refined petroleum products and crude petroleum were the top two traded items between Russia and Singapore, with a total trade value of more than SGD 2.9 billion last year.
8. Singapore also has plans to develop its capabilities in clean energy and move towards development of the clean & alternative energy sectors. This is congruent with the aim of becoming a more eco-friendly city and promoting the reduction of carbon footprints.
9. We are glad that our government is actively supporting this initiative and has provided strong financial support and framework. It helps to lead to the creation of innovative energy solutions that support this emerging industry.
10. Within SBF, we have formed an industry based grouping called the Clean Energy Business Group. It aims to connect member companies who are interested in adoption or commercialization of clean energy solutions. To date, we have organized briefings and business facilitation sessions related to projects such as the Sino-Singapore Tianjin eco-city and clean energy test-bedding at Pulau Ubin.
11. There are many Russian companies that possess advanced R&D and technical capabilities within these fields, which our local companies can collaborate and learn from. On this note, I would like to encourage our Singaporean businessmen to make full use of the wonderful opportunity, to interact and explore potential business projects with the Russian companies.
12. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone present here today a most fruitful conference.
13. With this, it is now my pleasure to invite Mr. Sergey Obrezanov CEO of Russian Business Incubator to address us. Thank you.
Speech by Sergey Obrezanov, CEO, RBI “FUTURUS” PTE. LTD., on
"Business Opportunities in Traditional and Alternative Energy Conference 2009"
on 26 June 2009, Fri, at SBF Seminar Room 2, Level 21
Dear colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am honored to greet here today:
Esteemed Mr. Teng Theng Dar, CEO of Singapore Business Federation; Mr. Alexey Dakhnovsliy, Senior Counsellor for Commercial affairs of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Singapore.
On January 14, 2009 at a special ceremony at the premises of the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) RBI "FUTURUS" and SBF signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This MOU has given a start to a long term program of activities which includes organization of training and business promotion conferences and seminars by the two parties from 2009 and onwards. In March RBI & SBF held the first Russia-Singapore Conference of Nanotechnologies attended by almost 200 participants representing the whole Singapore nano community.
This event - "Business Opportunities in Traditional and Alternative Energy Conference 2009" is our second public event of above mentioned program with SBF. It shall become one more step to work out a practical agenda for future development of business cooperation in traditional and green energy sectors between Russia and Singapore. As you can notice we are trying to promote cooperation between the two countries in such sectors which are a part of the key national agenda for the Republic of Singapore. More such events are scheduled for later this year already. Among them of similar importance shall be a conference on bio-medical and health issues as well as the conference on promoting bilateral trade relations.
At the Conference today the participants have an opportunity to have a look at the current energy agenda of Russia and Singapore, at how the balance is gradually changing between traditional and sustainable energy sectors with the latter gradually taking more space in the energy sector as a whole. Our purpose here is not theoretical. We are aiming at finding a practical application of Singapore achievements in developing green and sustainable energy technologies in the modernization and diversification plans for the Russian economy.
This is another dimension of RBI "FUTURUS"'s activities which is related to assistance to Singapore companies which want to expand to the Russian market and which might include export of goods and technologies as well as starting production in the Russian Federation. This has become quite acute and possible in light of current economic crisis. Russia is interested to modernize its industries and innovate as well as diversify economy whereas Singapore is keen to diversify its export markets and develop its innovative exports.
It is unfortunate that due to sudden illness Mr. Dghanibekov, one of the most famous cosmonauts in the world and our scheduled speaker at this Conference could not come and make his presentation on the Quantum energy research & perspectives. We included his slides in the information package for the participants and we hope that he will be able to attend one of our future events.
Let me also thank all of you for joining us today and express my sincere hope that it will be an interesting and useful event for you.
