Singapore, Thursday, 18 June 2009 - Business connections between Singapore and Da Nang City were given a boost today when business representatives from both sides met during a Roundtable session.

Organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF), this inaugural roundtable enabled Singapore companies to network and establish first-time business links with Da Nang's key government agencies, business leaders and business associations. It aims to help them understand Da Nang's economic and investment policies as well as to identify any new business leads in trade, project consultancy and investment opportunities. The session also provided SBF the opportunity to establish a communication channel with positive rapport with the People's Committee of Da Nang City for future collaboration opportunities.

Representing the Singapore business community were 10 businessmen from sectors including industrial park service provider; real estate development and investment; infrastructure & building development and management services provider; legal practice; health tourism; total productive maintenance (TPM) consultancy, and training; and precision manufacturing. They heard their Vietnamese counterpart, Mr Tran Van Minh, Chairman of People's Committee of Da Nang City, encouraging Singapore to send cruise ships to Da Nang?s deep sea port; maintain and promote direct flights from Singapore to Da Nang; and import seafood from Da Nang, of which this coastal city has in abundance.

There were also calls for investments in the tourism industry as well as the recently established Central Economic Zone where Da Nang City plays the role of a regional gateway city to the zone. In addition, investors can also consider putting their funds in the soon to be established Da Nang hi-tech park with ready infrastructure and labour force.

The Business Roundtable with Da Nang is just one of the many Roundtable sessions coordinated by SBF and the Vietnam Embassy in Singapore. Going forward, SBF may plan for a seminar on Da Nang City and province in early 2010.

Similar business events have also been driven by SBF to cater to Singapore companies' business interest in Vietnam. SBF, in collaboration with Institute of South East Asian Studies (ISEAS), is currently organizing a series of seminars for New Growth Areas in Vietnam to introduce some of these provinces. Vietnam has 63 provinces and many of them can provide investors with plenty of good opportunities for potential growth. The series kicked off early this year with a Seminar on Phu Yen Province in March 09. The second seminar series was organized for Hai Phong Province, which featured Sembcorp Industrial Parks? VSIP project in Hai Phong Province. Upcoming seminars include new growth areas of Dalat City in Lam Dong province on 31 July 09, Phu Tho province on 30 September 2009, Thua Tien-Hue province and so on.
