Singapore, Thursday, 28 May 2009 - The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) organised a study programme for a high level delegation from the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI) from 28 to 29 May.

The incoming delegation was predominantly Secretary General level delegates and the purpose of this visit was to understand SBF's operating model and the activities and services offered to the Singapore business community. CSCCI had chosen Singapore as one of the two Asian destinations for their study visit, clearly reflecting the close bilateral ties that both countries share.

Led by Dr Fahad S. Alsultan, Secretary General of CSCCI, the delegation consisted of nine other Secretary Generals and Senior Executives, notably from Jeddah (Saudi's commercial capital) and the Eastern Province (oil and gas capital). This trip is supported by His Excellency Dr. Jamil M. Merdad, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Singapore, and his team of officers from the Saudi Embassy.

During the programme, SBF CEO Mr. Teng Theng Dar, Mr Tan Poh Teck, Deputy Executive Director and several other SBF speakers shared their insights and business experiences with the delegates. There were constructive discussions on topics such as chamber relations with member companies; international marketing and exhibition; and training and development of human capital. The Saudi delegation was also very keen to understand more about SBF's mandatory membership rule and how it functioned given that this is also a policy in Saudi Arabia. In addition, they were also keen to better understand the type of services that were rendered to SBF members because they currently have a different system in Saudi Arabia. SBF also shared its experiences in business capacity building and how it helped to facilitate business continuity management for Singapore-based SMEs during crisis time such as the HINI flu outbreak, and this was something the delegation found very useful and timely. They were also keen to explore the same model of SBF-PICO joint venture to be replicated in Saudi Arabia to boost their event organisation capabilities.

Crimson Logic, one of Singapore's leading ICT companies which hosted the delegation at their headquarters, shared with the delegates their contributions to Singapore's national development through ICT solutions such as e-government, and the company was subsequently invited to do a roadshow for private sector companies in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Fahad thanked SBF for the high quality and well-organized study programme and invited SBF to lead a delegation to Saudi Arabia.
