Survey on Doing Business in Indonesia Through Singapore
As you may be aware, Indonesia has recently ratified the tax treaty with Hong Kong. The tax treaty will take effect from 1 April 2013 in Hong Kong and 1 January 2013 in Indonesia.
Under the new treaty, Indonesia will reduce taxes on Hong Kong investors’ income in dividends, royalties, interest on financial products and profit generated by branches of Hong Kong companies operating in the country.
This potentially favours Hong Kong against Singapore such that it may affect Singapore’s position as a choice location for holding company into Indonesia. It may also encourage Singapore companies holding investments in Indonesia to move to Hong Kong to take advantage of this new agreement.
