The Embassy of Peru in Singapore and the Commission for the Promotion of Peru (PROMPERU), in partnership with the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and SHATEC Institutes, proudly present and welcome you to the upcoming Peru Pisco Festival Opening Cocktail Reception.
With a population of close to 30 million, Peru is home to a melting pot of ethnicities and its multi-cultural identity is complemented by the country’s commitment to free trade and multilateral business relations. In recent times, the country’s rapid modernisation has contributed to strong macroeconomic performance, culminating in 8.8% GDP growth in 2010. And with its pro-business outlook and modern economic conditions, Peru has become one of Latin America’s key destinations for foreign trade and investment opportunities.
In conjunction with the upcoming visit of Peruvian Pisco specialists and producers, the Pisco FestivaI will accord invited guests a unique opportunity to learn more about Peruvian culture as a first step to greater bilateral understanding and ties. The Pisco Festival will also allow participants to appreciate the delicate qualities and varieties of this beverage, one of Peru’s finest spirits, as well as meet with potential suppliers and partners.
Pisco, a Quechua word that means bird, is the Peruvian grape obtained from the distillation of fresh spirits produced by the fermentation of grape musts using traditional methods. Its distinctive distillation process does not stop until the alcohol by volume reaches an average of 42 Gay-Lussac degrees. Purity is further enhanced as no distilled or treated water is added in order to preserve the liquor’s body, colour or other distinctive characteristics.
With its rich cultural heritage and history, Peru is a melting pot of various traditions and ethnic influences and the history of Pisco is a chapter on the culture-enriching mixture of races that is embraced as part of the Peruvian national identity.
