FAMILY BUSINESS
Every family business is exceptional, shaped by its own set of distinctive personalities, objectives, and relationships. Many people in the wider business community are unaware that owners and managers of family businesses face many unique challenges.

Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and BDO understand and realize that family businesses are important drivers of the Singapore economy, especially amongst the Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs). A key concern faced by family businesses is the sustainability and the fine balance between maintaining the family ties and the business growth. Hence, we have put together a series of workshops to assist the family businesses.

    Roger Loo is the Director of the Marketing & Strategic Advisory from BDO Consultants Pte Ltd. With over ten years of experience in the business intelligence and consultancy industries, he has a proven track record in areas that include market intelligence and research, feasibility studies, strategy consulting, internationalization and family business advisory. His global expertise include market developments and penetrations in matured markets such as Australia, China, United Kingdom and United States; product development and market entry strategies into emerging markets such as Greater China, Brazil, Morocco, Vietnam and India.

    Prior to joining BDO, Roger has served as the Associate Director, Greater China for The Asian Banker – specializing in banking and financial business intelligence and research for the banking communities in the North Asia Region. Roger spearheads offices in Shanghai and Beijing, while managing regional contacts to Hong Kong and Taiwan. Roger was leading custom research projects for Chinese private bankers as well as family businesses in the areas of succession planning; family constitutions, and family council etc. Roger was instrumental in advising and educating the concept on the critical linkages between family, business and ownerships.

    • Family business life cycle stages: stages that reflect ageing and expansion of the owning family: owner-managed business > siblings partnership > cousin consortium

    • Working in the family business: learn how next gen family members should work with senior generation
    • Mentorship: Because of the dynamics of parent-child relationships, knowledge can hardly flow efficiently in a straight line from parent to the child, learn how to overcome this.
