This seminar aims to assist participants to gain insight and understanding into the complexities and requirements governing accounting for financial instruments. The seminar is designed to make the interpretation and understanding of FRS 39 Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement and FRS 32 Financial Instruments: Presentation less daunting through comprehensive explanations on major segments of the standards, generous use of summary flowcharts and many practical examples to illustrate the requirements.

Practical and simple-to-understand illustrations will be used throughout to demonstrate complex issues. To reinforce the understanding of the application of the underlying requirements and principles of FRS 39 and FRS 32, relevant hands-on exercises and discussion questions will be featured during the workshop. The seminar also highlights impending changes arising from IFRS 9 Phase 1.

    Workshop Leader
    Dr Pearl Tan has extensive experience in teaching advanced financial accounting in Singapore Management University and previously in Nanyang Technological University. Dr Tan has also co-written a book Advanced Financial Accounting: an IAS and IFRS Approach that deals with complex accounting standards. Prior to academia, she has had many years of auditing experience in an international accounting firm. Presently, Dr Tan sits on the Accounting Standards Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore.
