Workshop on Accounting for Long-Lived Assets:

In a mixed attribute accounting environment, long-lived non-financial assets present its own set of financial reporting challenges. The workshop provides an overview of the relevant Financial Reporting Standards (FRS) that deal with specific long-lived assets. The workshop explains the recognition, measurement and disclosure requirements pertaining to property, plant and equipment, intangible assets and investment property. Further, the workshop highlights the pertinent requirements relating to the impairment of these assets. Illustrative examples show the application of the relevant FRS to specific situations. The workshop covers the following standards:

FRS 16 Property, Plant and Equipment
FRS 23 Borrowing Costs
FRS 36 Impairment of Assets
FRS 38 Intangible Assets
FRS 40 Investment Property


Workshop Leader

Dr Pearl Tan has extensive experience in teaching advanced financial accounting in Singapore Management University and previously in Nanyang Technological University. Prior to academia, she has had many years of auditing experience in an international accounting firm. Presently, Dr Tan sits on the Financial Reporting Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore and has served as a member of the Working Group (Financial Instruments) of the Accounting Standards Council. She also actively provides feedback on an on-going basis to the International Accounting Standards Board. She has also co-written a textbook, Advanced Financial Accounting, published by McGraw-Hill that deals with complex issues in financial reporting.

  • No cancellation will be allowed upon registration, but attendance by a replacement delegate from your company is allowed. We regret that no refund will be made for cancellation. Full fees will be charged for cancellation or non-attendance.
