In commemoration of the founding of ASEAN since August 1967, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is proud to co-host the inaugural ASEAN Day Business Roundtable Discussion together with the Singapore Business Federation. This session aims to facilitate frank and candid discussions between members of the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), including on recent political and economic developments in ASEAN. The discussion will also address the implementation of the ASEAN Charter and the establishment of the ASEAN Community by 2015.

3.00pm Opening Remarks by Mr. Kwok Fook Seng Director-General,
Singapore ASEAN National Secretariat (MFA)

As D-G ASEAN-Singapore, Mr. Kwok oversees Singapore's national coordination on ASEAN issues. He will comment on recent developments within ASEAN in the security and socio-political spheres, including developments in the evolving regional architecture.

3.15pm Remarks by Ms. Sulaimah Mahmood Senior Economic Official (MTI)

As Singapore's senior ASEAN economic official representative, Ms. Sulaimah is an expert on ASEAN's economic integration efforts. She will speak on the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint and how the various FTAs ASEAN has signed or are embarking on with its Dialogue Partner translate into reducing barriers and enhancing ease of doing business in the region.

3.30pm Remarks by Dr. Robert Yap Council Member (SBF) and ASEAN-BAC Member

As a member of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), a grouping formed in June 2003 comprising ASEAN's most prominent businessmen, Dr. Yap will provide the business perspective of ASEAN integration efforts as well as share updates on the work of the ASEAN-BAC.

3.45pm Roundtable Discussion / Q & A session

Participants are welcome to share their views, raise questions and comment any issues of interest or concern

4.30pm Reception

Roundtable participants are welcome to continue their discussions over refreshments in an informal setting.
