At the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Singapore in November 2009, APEC Leaders pledged to put in place a comprehensive long-term growth strategy that supports more balanced growth within and across economies, achieves greater inclusiveness in our societies, sustains our environment, and which seeks to raise our growth potential through innovation and a knowledge-based economy. Under the leadership of Japan in 2010, APEC has identified the key thrusts of this new Growth Strategy that will take the regional community forward.

The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Singapore is pleased to present to you this Informational Seminar entitled “APEC Past 20 - Charting New Growth Strategies for Future Business Prosperity”. In this seminar, we examine the achievements of APEC in the two decades that have passed since APEC’s inception in 1989. As an Asia-Pacific organization, the role that APEC plays in the global economy has taken on a new form now that the world looks towards Asia for recovery and future growth. The following topics will be discussed:

Reminisce
- What are APEC’s success stories? Have businesses achieved greater prosperity through the policies of APEC?
- Are there any caveats to APEC’s old growth strategy?

Look forward
- What defines APEC’s new growth strategy?
- How do we balance a rising Asia with the still mighty West? What is the impact on Asian businesses?

- Why ensuring supply chain connectivity is the single most important aspect towards achieving growth?

- Can we ensure equal and abundant opportunities for businesses – for both large and small enterprises?

- What must be done to ensure that growing environmentalism becomes not a burden, but a growth opportunity for businesses?

- How shall we protect and advance human capital development to enhance business growth?
