Workshop on Free Trade Agreements (FTA)

This one-day workshop aims to address the 4 "Ws" and 1 "H" of FTAs as it affects manufacturers What is FTA? Why FTA? Which FTA? When to utilise FTA? How to utilise FTA?

It covers practical matter such as:
1) Identifying the right FTA to utilise
2) Determining if goods qualify for preferential duty rates
3) Computing the local or regional content of goods
4) Registering the factory premises with Singapore Customs
5) Preparing and submitting the manufacturing cost statement
6) Preparing the documents for inspection in country of import

At the end of the workshop, participants can expect to take away with them the knowledge to utilise FTA in their business organisation to achieve potential cost savings in terms of reduced duty rates on goods imported into foreign countries.


About the Trainers:

1) Mr Lam Kok Shang
Kok Shang heads the KPMG Indirect Tax Practice and the Free Trade Agreement desk in Singapore and has been involved in GST since before its introduction in 1994. He spent 24 years in public accounting and is an experienced advisor on indirect taxes.

Since then, he has partnered many clients in their GST-related matters such as GST compliance reviews and application for GST concessions. Clients who attained the CAP status will be entitled to benefits such as exemption from IRAS GST audit for a period of 3 or 5 years and faster refund turnaround time. Kok Shang’s sector experience includes financial services, IT, construction, real estate, government, manufacturing, industrial products and trading.


2) Ms Cecelia Tan
Cecelia is a Manager with the KPMG Indirect Tax Practice. At KPMG Tax Services, Cecelia works with clients spanning various industries, primarily in the areas of indirect tax consulting, GST prudential reviews and GST due diligence. Cecelia also represents clients in making voluntary disclosure with respect to GST matters and obtaining favorable GST rulings from the IRAS. She also advises clients on various Customs issues such as the usage of FTA, HS codes and import duties.
