The current scope of the WSH Act covers all factories and certain workplaces. With effect from September 2011, the scope of WSH Act will be EXTENDED to ALL workplaces. Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) issues have traditionally been an area of focus for industries deemed more hazardous such as construction and marine. However, even with lesser fatality rates in the service, hospitality and retail industries it does not mean that there are no WSH issues in these industries. Accidents such as slip/trips, cuts, burns and scald, exposure to hazardous chemicals and even fires could still happen. Ergonomic and health issues are also common place for these industries as a result of poor postures and lifting/ handling techniques.
