The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) presents the inaugural Tajikistan-Singapore Business Forum 2010. This is organised in conjunction with the visit of H.E. Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan and his esteemed delegation of senior government officials and elite businessmen.
The objective of this event is to bring to you the latest developments and opportunities in Tajikistan and support you in establishing useful contacts with Tajik businessmen and government officials.
About Tajikistan
Home to a population of 7.3 million people, Tajikistan is rich in natural resources, most importantly water and hydropower potential, and also some minerals— high quality coal, gold, silver, precious stones, and uranium.
The country has made considerable progress in recent years in stabilizing the economy and in the implementation of sound economic policies and structural reforms, which has contributed to high rates of economic growth, poverty reduction and deflation.
According to World Bank Statistics, the country experienced strong economic growth averaging 8% between 2000 to 2008. Though it was exposed to the worldwide recession in 2009, the country maintained a positive growth rate. The World Bank Doing Business 2010 report released in September 2009 also ranked Tajikistan amongst the top 10 global reformers who made doing business easier.
Vis-à-vis its neighbours, Tajikistan offers more untapped opportunities and potential to the Singapore business community especially in the following sectors:
