The Singapore Business Federation (SBF), together with the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Singapore is pleased to present the inaugural Kazakhstan-Singapore Business Forum 2009 & Networking Session.
The objective of this forum is to bring to you the latest developments and opportunities in Kazakhstan and support you in establishing useful contacts with senior Kazakh officials and elite businessmen.
About Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan stands out from the former Soviet states as a fast-growing economic powerhouse and the political and economic hub of Central Asia. The economy has recorded impressive growth rates with annual growth averaging over 9% during 2000–07. Although the country was not spared in the recent global economic downturn, the increasing oil prices and the sound macroeconomic policies have placed the country in a relatively favourable position to weather the challenging conditions. According to EIU reports, Kazakhstan has attracted over 80% of all foreign direct investment (FDI) into Central Asia; by end-2007 its inward stock of FDI amounted to US$40.2bn.
Although the mining sectors have traditionally been the backbone of the economy in Kazakhstan, the government has announced a strategy of diversifying the economy away from this reliance; thereby presenting opportunities for the Singapore business community.
