Launch of Singapore's Green IT Award
IBM sharing on their Green practices
Judging criteria for the Green IT Award & Green IT Index
Green IT Award
Jointly presented by Singapore Business Federation (SBF) together with IBM Singapore Pte Ltd and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) as an educational & training partner, and supported by International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, Singapore Environment Institute of National Environment Agency and Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF), the inaugural Singapore Green IT Award aims to provide recognition to holistic green IT solutions, which meet the needs of the business, ecology and society. It is targeted to give recognition to Singapore-based enterprises with outstanding sustainable IT practices.
Frost & Sullivan, our knowledge partner, will be responsible for developing a Green IT Index that will help both green IT vendors and end user adopters in terms of benchmarking in the future.
The Actual Award will be presented on 9 April 2010 during the Eco World 2010 event.
Green IT
Green IT has been broadly defined as the energy savings of IT and by IT. In energy savings of IT, it broadly refers to the environmentally responsible use of computers and related IT resources. Such practices include the implementation of energy-efficient CPUs, servers, data storage and peripherals as well as reduced resource consumption and proper disposal of e-waste, etc.
In energy savings by IT, these include the use of intelligent IT devices for smart energy control to help in terms of energy savings in buildings, transport, industrial sectors, etc.
