Bilateral Relations

Singapore-Vietnam relations are excellent and characterized by strong economic cooperation. Over the last decade, bilateral ties have strengthened rapidly and both countries cooperate closely within ASEAN and at other international forums. Economically, Singapore is Vietnam's fifth largest foreign investor, with registered cumulative investments reaching US$17 billion as of August 2009. Singapore companies have investments in the areas of ports & logistics, healthcare, real estate and manufacturing. Singapore is the fifth largest trading partner of Vietnam in 2008, with bilateral trade amounting to S$16 billion for the year. Vietnam is also an increasingly significant tourism market for Singapore, with bilateral tourist arrivals on an upward trend in recent years.

Framework Agreement on Vietnam-Singapore Connectivity

Established in December 2005, the Connectivity Framework Agreement is a key pillar of our growing bilateral relationship and provides an overarching framework to guide bilateral economic cooperation in six sectors - education and training, finance, investment, information technology and telecommunications, trade and services, and transportation. The Connectivity Agreement aims to build upon each other's strengths and competencies, to accelerate Vietnam's growth, while enabling Singapore’s active participation in that growth. To date, Connectivity has achieved good progress across all six sectors of cooperation and has successfully facilitated projects by Singapore companies that contribute to Vietnam's economic development.
