The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced on 17 August 2009 that the Singapore economy contracted by 6.5 per cent in the first half of 2009. In the second quarter of 2009, Singapore’s GDP expanded by a seasonally adjusted 20.7 per cent compared to the previous quarter. This performance represented a significant improvement from the 12.2 per cent contraction in the first quarter of the year
