Riding out the volatile economic turmoil is the No. 1 priority facing SMEs in Singapore and the ASEAN region. Factors such as diminishing financial facilities, declining market demand, labour mobility issues and increasing risks of operations drastically impact the contribution of SMEs to the growth of the ASEAN economy.

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint, signed by the ASEAN Leaders on 20 November 2007, aims to transform ASEAN into a single market and production base by 2015. With free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled labour and freer flow of capital, AEC will foster a pro-business environment, lower consumer prices, boost productivity and prospects for sustainable development.

Amidst the current economic down-turn, this seminar will point out the benefits and challenges for SMEs in Singapore as ASEAN gears up to be a regional economic community. In particular, the challenges faced by Singapore SMEs in their regionalisation drive will be surfaced, e.g., credit & financial constraints; labour mobility and supply issues; market demand; political risk factors.

Participants will gain from the experiences of top SME industry players in the process of going regional - especially opportunities seized and risks taken in going regional, resulting in timely applications for corporate viability.
