Review of the critical ICC Opinions given since the implementation of UCP 600 - their impact upon the application of UCP and for documentary credits in general

11:15 – 12:30 The users speak. An opportunity to have your questions and concerned reviewed and commented upon. It is often the case that not everyone has an opportunity to air their issues. This session ensures that there is time to review all your questions and the audience will have access to the text of the questions and their answers.

13:30 – 14:45 Reviewing refusal notices of banks to determine correctness and applicability. Incorrect refusal notices are still an issue globally and the impact on banks can be significant
14:45 – 15:00 Break
15:00 – 15:45 With the current financial crisis, there is temptation for applicants and banks to take advantage and refuse documents for unwarranted reasons. This session will not only look at examples of these transactions but also look at how issuing banks and applicants can secure their position without the need for undermining the UCP and the documentary credit as an international payment product
15:45 – 16:30 Applying the UCP 600 on a day-to-day basis
16:30 – 17:00 How alternative forms of documentary credits can serve applicants and beneficiaries
17:00 – 17:30 Final Question and Answer session and wrap-up

Workshop Leader
Gary Collyer has been the Technical Adviser to the International Chamber of Commerce since 2006, where he has been responsible for providing numerous opinions related to the application and interpretation of ICC rules. In his ICC role, Gary has been chair of the ICC Working Group for the development of the ISP98, the strategy for a revision of UCP500 and a member of the ICC Working Groups for the development/revision of URR525, URC522 and e-UCP. More recently, he was chair of the Working Group for the revision of the UCP500 and the updating of ISBP, eUCP and URR525. Editor of six ICC opinion publications, he is also an editorial board member of Documentary Credit Insight and Documentary Credit World. The author of the updated CDCS text book (2007) and International Trade Finance publication (9th edition) (2007), he has also produced two publications covering frequently asked questions under UCP 600. He is also a regular speaker at ICC and other external seminar events on a global basis.
