Productivity and Sustainable Growth 2010 – 2020:
Challenges in Leadership and Management
The second decade of the 21st Century poses many challenges for employers. The Economic Strategies Committe comprising government, union and business representatives has stated that we aim for a 3 to 5% pa GDP growth to be supported by a 2 to 3% pa growth in productivity over the period 2010 to 2020.
This will mean that we need to invest in skills, up our innovation and be able to attract and retain talent in Singapore. In Singapore’s Budget statement for 2010, Minister for Finance said that every employer must take the initiative (to raise productivity). Our Employers must also empower their people to find new ways to create value and help unlock every workers’ potential.
How will leaders and managers in organisations respond to these challenges and strategies? What organisation changes will be needed? What will be the new priorities in management practices? What will be the new skills required and how should companies prepare their workforce for the future? What kind of leadership will be needed and how should HR respond to these challenges?
