The international standard ISO 31000:2009, Risk Management – Principles and Guidelines and ISO Guide 73, Risk Management - Vocabulary was published on 15 November 2009. The ISO 31000 standard provides a framework to guide organisations in their risk management process. It seeks to integrate this process into the organisation's overall governance, strategy and planning, management, reporting processes, policies, values and culture.

The standard can be used by all types of enterprises for a wide range of activities, including strategies and decisions, operations, processes, functions, projects, products, services and assets.
