The Institute of South Asian Studies is organising its Fifth International Conference on South Asia at Grand Hyatt, Singapore, on 4 November 2008, from 9.30 am - 5.35 pm.

Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Law, Singapore, will deliver the keynote address for the conference on "South Asia: Beyond the Global Economic Recession". The conference will see a number of plenary sessions discussing socio-economic and political issues in South Asia, including the role of the financial institutions; South Asia's economic integration; South Asia and extra-regional economies; governance; education; environmental challenges; and conflicts, extremism and terrorism in South Asia.
