Singapore Business Mission to Eastern Africa: Tanzania and Kenya

Following the Singapore Business Federation’s (SBF) inaugural business mission to Eastern Africa in 2010, SBF, together with the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) will be embarking on a business mission to Tanzania and Kenya from 9 - 16 November 2011.

With improved political and macroeconomic stability as well as rapid private-sector growth, Africa holds vast business and trading opportunities for the Singapore business community. Regionally, Eastern Africa is a promising market with a combined population of 133.5 million people (2010) and a combined GDP of $74.5 billion (2009). With the newly established common market of the East African Community (EAC), the Singapore business community can also leverage on the free movement of labour, capital, goods and services within the EAC to advance their business interests.

Key Highlights of Kenya
Nairobi is the regional economic and commercial hub of Eastern and Central Africa Holds the region’s best transport links, communication infrastructure and skilled personnel The Port of Mombasa is the main entry point for goods and the most important deep-water port in the region Access to an extraordinarily well-educated and multi-lingual work-force, with literacy levels of about 85%, amongst the highest in Africa. Strongest and most sophisticated industrial base in the Eastern and Central African region
Key Facts of Tanzania
Africa’s third largest gold producer with abundant natural resources for agriculture, mining and energy with 44 million hectares of arable land, with only about 5% currently under cultivation Access to a population of 45 million, the highest in Eastern Africa Strategic location as a natural East Africa hub with Dar es Salaam as the largest port of entry serving neighbouring landlocked countries Leading FDI destination in the East Africa region where value of FDI stock has exceeded US$ 6 billion

This business mission is supported by IE Singapore under the International Marketing Assistance Programme (iMAP). Eligible companies may apply to International Enterprise (IE) Singapore for Double Tax Deduction (DTD) for expenses incurred.
