SBF Business Mission to Thailand (Bangkok) (Mission postponed to a later date)
Located at the heart of South East Asia and Greater MaeKong Sub-region, Thailand has the potential to promote its role as one of the regional logistic and Trade hubs. Realizing the crucial role of this sector on presenting opportunities for trade and investment development, Thailand has continued to upgrade its logistics facilities and technology infrastructure to increase the nation’s freight handling capacity and assure faster, more efficient cargo movement. A number of projects are underway, including the expansion of Thailand’s premier deep-sea port, improvements in multi-modal linkages, the proliferation of e-logistics and a move toward paperless customs procedures.
With a well-developed infrastructure, a free-enterprise economy, and generally pro-investment policies, Thailand was one of East Asia's best performers from 2002-2004. In the year of 2007, Thailand was Singapore’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade amounting to S$31 billion. Last year alone, Singapore’s total approved foreign direct investment in Thailand was 34.4 billion baht (S$1.4 billion) –an 84 per cent increase from 2006 – making the Republic the third largest investor in Thailand after Japan and the United States.
The new government coalition elected in December has made economic growth a top priority and promised market-friendly policies. In March, it removed tough capital controls imposed in late 2006 by the military-appointed interim government to stem surging baht which threatened the export-driven economy. Thailand’s economy grew 6 per cent in the first quarter as the nation’s first elected government since 2006 increased confidence and consumer spending.
Business opportunities in Thailand includes manufacturing, biotechnology, medical tourism, textiles and garments, agricultural processing, beverages, tobacco, cement, light manufacturing such as jewelry and electric appliances, computers and parts, integrated circuits, furniture, plastics, automobiles and automotive parts; world's second-largest tungsten producer and third-largest tin producer
Don’t miss this opportunity! Join us in this business mission today, to further evaluate the investment possibilities in Thailand for your company!
