The Baltic Tiger is a term used to refer to any of the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania during their periods of economic boom. Between 2000 and 2006, the Baltic Tiger states had the highest growth rates in Europe. This was attributed to the implementation of important economic reforms and liberalisation, and coupled with their fairly low-wage and skilled labour force, attracted large amounts of foreign investment and economic growth. The Baltic economies are predicted to continue growing at a high annual rate of 5-10% until at least 2010, translating to the growing demands for foreign goods and services bringing about vast opportunities for the Singapore business community.
LITHUANIA: The economy grew by 8.7% in 2007 and boasts of being one of the world's largest markets, with 456 million consumers. It also has one of the lowest tax rate at 15% in general and 13% for small corporations.
LATVIA: Since 2000, Latvia has had one of the highest GDP growth rates in Europe; and closing at 10.2% in 2007. It boasts of a low flat corporate income tax of 15% and there are no controls on import, export, or the use and conversion of foreign currencies, which facilitates investment and repatriation of profits.
ESTONIA: Estonia's GDP grew by 7.1% in 2007 and has the highest GDP per capita amongst the Baltic states. Additionally, Estonia is amongst the ten most liberal economies in the world. Its liberal foreign trade regime, which contains few tariff or non-tariff barriers, is virtually unique in Europe.
As part of the delegation accompanying SM Goh on his official visit, we seek your kind cooperation & understanding to adhere to the programme that is planned and stay throughout the entire mission in order not to miss out any opportunities to attend business forums and establish relevant contacts.
