SBF Business Mission To Carbon Expo And Germany

Hailed as the world's leading global event for stakeholders in the Carbon Market, CARBON EXPO (www.carbonexpo.com) is the primary platform for emissions trading, carbon abatement solutions and new technologies - a meeting place for learning, sharing experience and knowledge, as well as business matching opportunities, used not only by leading decision makers and experts from the worlds of business, policy, science and NPOs but also traders and the financial sector.
In line with Singapore Government's plan to develop Singapore into a Carbon Trading Hub for Asia, IE Singapore (IES), the lead government agency for carbon trading, is supporting this mission trip under its IMAP funding.
There will be an inaugural Singapore pavilion led by SBF at Carbon Expo. Delegates will also have the opportunities to meet up with local authorities, businesses and officials and leading renewable energy companies during company site visits as part of the itineraries.

Carbon Trading Market Carbon emissions trading in Asia reached a volume of 21.5 billion USD from Jan to Sep 2006, more than doubling the total volume for 2005 - demonstrating Asia's rapid development and its enormously increasing carbon emissions trading potential. Already Asia is a major selling region for CDM with more than 84% of global volume share. After China and India, Southeast Asia collectively ranks third highest in greenhouse gas emissions among developing countries. Setting 2003 as the base year and following the "business-as-usual" scenario of the International Energy Agency World Energy Outlook Projection, East Asia's carbon dioxide emissions are predicted to increase by 350% by the year 2050. Thanks to its world class finance industry, Singapore is quickly developing into a CDM trading hub serving all Asian markets - including India, China, South East Asia and Australia. The Singapore Government has set out challenging goals for local CDM projects and strongly supports carbon emissions trading, clean air and energy projects.
Germany is an EU leader in wind utilisation, PV, solar thermal installations and biofuel production. Its onshore wind capacity covers approximately 50% of the total installed capacity in the EU. A combination of strong R&D & technology innovations, government incentives, sufficient funding have led to the healthy growth of the German renewable energy market, which would serve as a good learning ground for Singapore companies
