Batam's and Bintan's strategic geographical location presents opportunities for Singapore investors to supply to a large domestic market and to tap on their substantial workforce. In 2007, promoted as strategic manufacturing base with a significant cost advantage, Batam, Bintan and Karimun (BBK) have attracted many investors with a total foreign investment of US$ 9,324.6 million; this represents an increase over the year of 2006, US$ 426.3 million.

Together with BBK Special Incentives, the new Indonesian Investment Law that was approved on 29 March 2007 has made investing in BBK even more attractive. This change aims to simplify investment-related procedures and introduce fiscal incentives and other arrangements, including a one-stop service solution centre for foreign investors.
