New industry leaders and TAC representatives join SBF Council for 2018-2020 term

  • Eight new members comprising three elected members, four representatives from Trade Associations and Chambers (TACs) and one co-opted member

  • New office bearers for SBF Vice Chairman, Deputy Honorary Secretary as well as Honorary and Deputy Honorary Treasurer positions

  • SBF will leverage the TAC Alliance and new SBF Committees to work closely with Government and other stakeholders to tackle burning business issues and champion the interests of our business community
[28 June 2018] Singapore - Eight new members – three elected members, four representatives of TACs and one newly co-opted member – were appointed to the Singapore Business Federation’s (SBF) Council for a two-year term from 2018 to 2020 at the Federation’s 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) today. 

The three new elected members are:

1. Ms Chong Ee Rong
    Group Managing Director, Ogilvy & Mather (Singapore) Pte Ltd

2. Mr Andrew Kwan
    Managing Director, Swiss-Bake Pte Ltd

3. Mr Ron Sim
    Chief Executive Officer, OSIM International Pte Ltd

The other four new members representing TACs are:

4. Mr Roland Ng
    President, Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry

5. Mr Jonathan Asherson
    Chairman, Singapore International Chamber of Commerce

6. Mr Ramasamy Dhinakaran
    President, Singapore Retailers Association

7. Mr Takuhiko Tochiori
    Immediate Past President, Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Singapore
 
Also new to the SBF Council as a co-opted member is Ms Foo Mee Har, CEO, Wealth Management Institute, Nanyang Technological University.

“We are delighted to have eight new members on board the SBF Council. SBF will benefit from the new perspectives and rich expertise they bring to the Federation’s leadership,” said SBF Chairman Mr SS Teo. “SBF undertook a strategic review of its role and focus in 2017. The ‘renewed’ SBF, rolled out on 1 January 2018, aims to provide leadership to tackle burning business issues and champion the Singapore business community’s interests. I look forward to working closely with the newly appointed SBF Council to effect change through the newly formed SBF Committees and the TAC Alliance”, he added. Mr Teo also took the opportunity to express his deep appreciation to the outgoing Council members for serving with dedication and distinction. “It is thanks to them that the Federation has been able to accomplish much and make possible many of its initiatives”, he said.

Immediately following the AGM, the new Council held its first meeting, where Mr SS Teo was re-elected as SBF Chairman for his third consecutive two-year term. The AGM also saw the five Council members listed below receiving new appointments.

Separately, Mr Kurt Wee, President, Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, was announced as Chairman of the SBF SME Committee (SMEC). He succeeds Mr Lawrence Leow who was SMEC Chairman since its inception in 2011 till March 2018.

Mr Teo added, “We congratulate and thank these Council members for stepping up to become office bearers. SBF looks forward to their continuing contributions, insights and counsel.”

The full list of the 2018-2020 SBF Council can be found in the Annex. The 25-member SBF Council represents major business chambers, trade associations and businesses that contribute significantly to the Singapore economy.

Following SBF’s 16th Annual General Meeting, a dialogue with Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Chan Chun Sing, was held. Moderated by SBF Council Member and Director, PricewaterhouseCoopers WMS Pte Ltd, Mr Yeoh Oon Jin, the dialogue engaging over 400 participants touched on a broad range of issues from digitalisation, enhancing capabilities to expanding overseas, among other pertinent business issues.

Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade and Industry, said, “I would like to congratulate SBF on the appointment of its new Council for 2018-2020. SBF plays a critical role as Singapore’s apex business chamber, not only in advancing the interests of the business community, but also in supporting our companies and trade associations and chambers (TACs) in their growth and transformation, through tangible and concrete projects. The Government looks forward to working closely with the new SBF Council in further uplifting the business community as we prepare for the future economy.”
