A Letter from SS Teo: Supporting NS5023 June 2017
Dear SBF Members,
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING NS50
This year, Singapore celebrates 50 years of National Service (NS50). For half a century, NS has fulfilled Singapore’s critical need for defence and security, providing the peace and stability for our country’s progress. A significant milestone in Singapore’s nation-building journey, NS50 is also about recognising the contributions of past and present national servicemen.
Thanks to the commitment and sacrifices of many national servicemen with the support of their families, our businesses today enjoy a peaceful and stable environment to operate in. As employees of our businesses, our national servicemen also work hard to contribute to Singapore’s economic prosperity. Strong support from employers and businesses is paramount and indispensable in allowing our servicemen to discharge their duties.
To honour our national servicemen, the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (ACCORD)’s Employer and Business (E&B) Council, for which I represent the Singapore Business Federation as a member, will be organising several events to showcase the business community’s support for NS.
Kick-starting the celebrations is the NS50 Recognition Campaign beginning on 30 June 2017. On this day, businesses are encouraged to have their employees who were or still are national servicemen to wear their military uniforms to work. It is a gesture that shows companies’ support for NS and encourages the public to express their appreciation to our national servicemen. Those wearing their military uniforms will enjoy promotions from a variety of merchants and retailers.
NS continues to be fundamental to national defence and in maintaining Singapore’s peace and stability. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you our members and employers of NSmen for your support of this important initiative.
As we celebrate 50 years of NS, let us all continue to work together towards building a peaceful and stable Singapore for generations to come.
